Macroscopic characters

Microscopic characters
The type-study authors report pleurocystidia in P. mexicana and describe its pileocystidia as globose or cylindrical, sometimes poorly differentiated. Their observations caution against treating an earlier report of absent pleurocystidia as a diagnostic certainty. [ramirez-cruz-2013-types]

The name was published by R. Heim in 1957; Index Fungorum records holotype PC 0085751. The 2013 type study could not confirm possible synonymy with P. acutipilea or P. gallaeciae. NCBI separately lists P. galindoi as a heterotypic synonym; the supporting primary revision has not been checked here, so that assertion is not added to the adopted synonym list.
